Residence pathways to assess

Each pathway has its own legal basis, evidence and limitations. These options support comparison; the final route follows an individual case review.

Important regulatory note

The former investor residence route was repealed for new applications from 3 April 2025; earlier files have transitional rules. We do not present property purchase as a new guaranteed residence pathway.

International remote work

For remote activity involving companies outside Spain. Professional history, income, qualifications and social security matter. Assess domestic-client limitations and the distinction between employee and independent professional status against your case.

Innovative entrepreneurship

This pathway concerns innovative projects or those of particular economic interest and involves assessment including an ENISA report. The business plan must explain funding and added value; ordinary incorporation does not substitute for that assessment.

Non-lucrative residence

For living with sufficient resources without working or conducting professional activity. Do not treat this category as a remote-work solution. Assess funds, insurance and family circumstances against the application requirements.

Starting documents and questions

  • Passport, lawful residence and precise purpose; confirm the filing location before paying.
  • Income, contract and insurance evidence; project narrative and funding plan for entrepreneurship.

A final checklist follows individual assessment. Translations, certification and family documents may be required. Do not send sensitive documents at the first contact.

Before applying and when renewing

Review work permission, social security, tax, presence and renewal evidence separately. Study and family reunification are distinct routes with their own conditions. Authority processing times cannot be guaranteed.

Our support for this destination

We review your goals and circumstances, compare possible routes and prepare an initial checklist. Local legal coordination, translation and follow-up must be defined in the agreement before work begins; government and third-party charges are itemised separately.

Individual assessment is required. Nationality or budget alone does not establish eligibility.

Questions about this destination
